Nasal polyps<\/a> are growths caused by inflamed mucous membranes in the nasal passages and sinuses. These polyps can cause congestion, loss of smell and headaches, among other symptoms. They\u2019re often caused by chronic diseases and can reoccur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nasal polyps occur most commonly among people with chronic rhinosinusitis<\/a>. The polyps also occur with respiratory diseases including asthma, chronic sinusitis, cystic fibrosis, allergic rhinitis and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease. They can also be a sign of certain immunodeficiencies or autoimmune disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most common symptom of nasal polyps is congestion; it can be severe and does not improve with allergy medications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
